Intercultural Adventures in Felsőtárkány
18-23 March 2019
The first venue of the project was Felsőtárkány, Hungary, where the Spanish, Italian and Polish students were hosted in 2019 March. The programme started with an opening ceremony at the school. After that our guests had the possibility to walk around the school. The children took part in a funny competition around the school and got to know each other. The teachers attended a presentation and methodological workshop on Complex Instruction Method. The method is about teaching in linguistically, ethnically, and socially heterogeneous classrooms, in this way relates to dealing with intercultural differences. In the afternoon we held a welcome party, where each group introduced its country, culture and school. It was followed by a party where we played ice breaker games. It was the first time when we sang „You ’ve got a friend in me” from the famous animated film, Toy Story. This song was chosen as the official song of the project.
During the week we organized three workshops which represent the different fields of the Hungarian culture, music, folkdance and national symbols. The first group learnt music. They practiced Beethoven’s 9th symphony, the anthem of the European Union. The students formed a small band and learnt to play the music on simple instruments. The second group got acquainted with the basics of the Hungarian folk dance, and prepared a show. The third group studied the Hungarian Crown Jewels and did enamel crafts related to them. We worked in mixed groups involving members from each nation. Following these group activities, we travelled to Budapest to visit the Hungarian Parliament where the Crown Jewels are exhibited. In the afternoons historical sightseeings were organized to the nearby historical town Eger The guests had the possibility to discover the history and folklore of the region and Hungary.
In the occasion of a marvellous farewell party the partners presented what they acquainted during the week. The first group held a small concert and played the 9th symphony together. The second group presented a folkdance show wearing the local folk costume, which was a memorable experience for them. The enamel artworks were exhibited in the room to present the result of the third workshop. Finally, we organized a folkdance party. To say goodbye was not easy, but it was not the end of the project. This week resulted in fruitful partnership for teachers and students as well. It was inspiring for teachers, who could work well together learn from each other and students could make friends with foreign students. Everybody was looking forward to meeting again in Spain.
