Felsőtárkány Primary School

Felsőtárkány, Hungary

Felsőtárkány lies in the North region of Hungary, 7 kilometers from the town of Eger. It is a village with about 3700 inhabitants. Our school employs 27 teachers, and 200 students (aged 6-15) study here in eight grades. Our institution is the only school in the village, where we operate a school of music along with primary education. In our school of music we have more than 100 students studying instrumental music or folk singing. We put special emphasis on the development of the infrastructural conditions of studying. Our students enjoy a well-equipped IT room as well as a library, and a sports hall. The school offers multiple opportunities to participate in extracurricular activities. There is a school choir an art club and several sport facilities.

In our school special emphasis is put on teaching foreign language. English is taught from grade 1, and from grade 5 students have 5 English lessons a week.

Our board of teachers is committed to preserving tradition; therefore our students study folk dancing in the first four grades, which is supplemented by after school classes within the frame of talent support.

In our institution students get acquainted with the basics of horse culture and at the end of their 3 year course they take an exam both on theory and practice. Horse riding has been introduced into our curriculum for 5 years and from the last year we serve as a model organization in this field. Folk dance was represented and taught during this project as outstanding part of the Hungarian culture.
